Review on Regional Water Resources Assessment Models under Stationary and Changing Climate
نویسندگان
چکیده
A comprehensive assessment of the water resources available in a region or a river basin is essential for finding sustainable solutions for water-related problems concerning both the quantity and quality of the water resources. Research on the development and application of water balance models at different spatial and temporal scales has been carried out since later part of the 19th century. As a result, a great deal of experience on various models and methods has been gained. This paper reviews both traditional long-term water balance methods and the new generation distributed models for assessing available water resources under stationary and changing climatic conditions at different spatial and temporal scales. The applicability and limitations of the methods are addressed. Finally, current advances and challenges in regionaland large-scale assessment of water resources are presented.

Abstract This study examines the effects of climate change on runoff in the Yellow River basin in Khuzestan province. In this study, the combination of 14 general circulation models under two emission scenarios A2 and B1 were used for simulating the climatic variables in the next period (2025-2054) compared to the baseline period (1971-2000). The weighting method of mean observed temperature...
متن کاملUncertainties in climate change projections and regional downscaling in the tropical Andes: implications for water resources management
Climate change is expected to have a large impact on water resources worldwide. A major problem in assessing the potential impact of a changing climate on these resources is the difference in spatial scale between available climate change projections and water resources management. Regional climate models (RCMs) are often used for the spatial disaggregation of the outputs of global circulation ...

The lower Missouri River Basin has experienced increasing streamflow and flooding events, with higher risk of extreme hydrologic impacts under changing climate. The newly available North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program (NARCCAP) climate projections were used as atmospheric forcing for Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model which runs with varying potential evapotranspir...
متن کاملAssessing water resource system vulnerability to unprecedented hydrological drought using copulas to characterize drought duration and deficit
Global climate models suggest an increase in evapotranspiration, changing storm tracks, and moisture delivery in many parts of the world, which are likely to cause more prolonged and severe drought, yet the weakness of climate models in modeling persistence of hydroclimatic variables and the uncertainties associated with regional climate projections mean that impact assessments based on climate...
